Alexander Consulting, Inc. (ACI) handles a wide range of projects for our clients. Typical services provided include Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and Sampling and Monitoring Ground Water.
Environmental Site Assessments
Environmental site assessments (ESA) are a valuable tool for many of our clients. Each ESA provides an opportunity to have the environmental practices of a company reviewed and audited by another set of eyes.
ACI has conducted assessments in conjunction with changes in ownership or management at client companies, as well as in response to new corporate directives on environmental practices and compliance.
Our assessment extends beyond the site visit and includes a review of federal, state, and local regulations including applicable permits and reports; waste stream analysis; audits of waste disposal vendors; and reviews of past practices.
Some ESA's performed by ACI have resulted in permit applications/modifications, waste reduction programs, waste clean-ups (including hazardous waste), and procedural modifications.
A completed ESA report is also a valuable management tool for targeting capital monies earmarked for environmental projects that will produce results in the company's environmental impact and operational efficiency.
Sampling and Monitoring Ground Water
The first step in sampling and monitoring ground water is to install ground water monitoring wells.
After taking into consideration the project objectives, we determine the location of the wells. For example, at a project site in Tulsa, OK, one of the main objectives of the project was to determine the extent to which off-site contamination was migrating under and through our clients property.
In planning for the location and depth of the monitoring wells, we discovered that there was a confining unit between an upper water bearing zone and a lower water-bearing zone. To address the issue of which water-bearing zone was affected adversely, we decided that monitoring wells placed in twinned pairs would be ideal.
Once the subsurface geology had been taken into consideration, the drilling of wells began. ACI oversaw the drilling of these wells. After the drilling was completed, the wells were developed, appropriate state filings were made and the wells were sampled. The wells are sampled on an annual basis.
After the samples are collected they are sent to an approved lab for analysis. Once the results are back from the lab, we put together a sampling report of our findings and conclusions. This annual sampling is done in order to monitor the increase or decrease of the contaminant levels and to monitor the migration of the plume(s). ACI is in close contact with the client and reports are sent to all appropriate agencies on behalf of our client.
